I have owned this statue for close to 20 years but truthfully I don't know anything about it.  To me it looks Egyptian.  The carving is of a large beaked bird standing over it's nest. The nest contains 2 eggs.  The bird is using a stick to hold off a large snake who is trying to rob the nest.
The wood is DARK and heavy like ironwood.  I can't say exactly what the wood is.  This piece weighs more than 4 pounds!  It is 15 inches tall, the base measures approximately 3" X 5".
There are some cracks in the wood.  I have photographed the cracks.  Please have a look at each of my photos.
This striking piece is sure to be a conversation starter!
